What’s the best backpack design that allows you to get just as much use in the city as on a rocky trail?  Some people swear by a particular design while others don’t mind experimenting or owning multiple backpacks.

However, preparing for multiple scenarios doesn’t have to be a costly endeavor. A tactical sling backpack may prove to be the middle-ground solution for a variety of activities. Why?  Because a tactical military-style backpack is all about customization.

This article reviews a durable and affordable backpack created by Gowara Gear. Its levels of adjustability, storage compartmentalization, and comfort may just be what you’re looking for.

Gowara Gear Tactical Sling Backpack Review

Gowara Gear makes a variety of multipurpose backpacks at affordable prices. The company’s tactical sling pack design is one of its most popular models due to its versatility and expert craftsmanship.

Who is this product for?

This sling backpack is not just for the military-style gear enthusiasts. The average hiker, student, or gun owner can also get plenty of use out of it, though it’s not big enough for most survivalist types.

If you need something with a high degree of adjustability, the MOLLE webbing gives plenty of options. If you also need something that can withstand everyday use, then the backpack’s extra durability may prove even more valuable.

What’s included?

  • Two exterior back pockets
  • One large main compartment
  • Multiple concealed sleeves and pockets
  • MOLLE webbing
  • Exterior gun holster-style sleeve

Overview of features

This tactical sling backpack gets its above-average durability mainly from the 600D polyester fabric. All the seams are double-stitched to further improve resistance against wear and tear. A water-repellent coating has been applied to the fabric, although it’s not very efficient in heavy rain.

The pack’s main compartment is large enough to hold a 14” laptop, a large iPad, or a couple of books. It also provides sufficient room for clothes and other necessities needed on a hike or short camping trip.

Another interesting feature is the exterior sleeve on the front of the backpack which makes a good storage option for a handgun or ammunition.

A sling pack is always a good choice for the shooting range because of the extra arm mobility it provides. The extra padding on the shoulder strap makes it quite comfortable too.

The adjustability allows you to adjust the sway with ease on the fly. The Y-system compression also contributes to the comfort and security of the pack.

The two back pockets feature MOLLE webbing which allows you to strap on multiple attachments. The pockets have sturdy zippers which normally wouldn’t be very easy to operate.

However, Gowara Gear added cord-pulls to the zippers to enhance the ease of use.

As far as style is concerned, Gowara’s sling backpack has a military-style appearance. There are only two color options available: light brown and black.

But, another interesting feature gives this backpack the edge over most in its price range.

The back of the backpack is fully padded to enhance comfort. Not only that, but the padding allows maximum airflow which in combination with the breathable polyester fabric reduces the chance of overheating while wearing it. This makes it just as suitable for long trips in an urban or rural setting.

How to use

If you’re thinking of making it a gun range pack then you might want to maximize its potential by keeping the gun in the concealed Velcro compartment. To ensure that magazines are within reach at all times, MOLLE attachments may be added to the shoulder strap. This should optimize your efficiency in speed shooting drills.

If packing for a hike or a camping trip, the multiple compartments and attachment spots should allow you to carry quite a few gadgets and even enough batteries, and why not, a solar charger.

Gowara Gear made a strong statement with this military-style should pack. However, for some people, it may be just a tad too big.

If your torso measurements don’t fit the 14” x 11.5” measurements of the backpack comfortably, then perhaps something smaller at roughly the same price is better suited.

Reebow Gear has a similar sling backpack but with a height of just 12”. While you won’t be able to carry a small laptop, there’s still enough room for books, iPads, handguns, and some survival gear.

As an added bonus, the design also features two additional straps that reduce the sway of the backpack. As for the range of motion, it remains the same even after securing the secondary straps.

Although marketed as a tactical sling backpack, this Gowara Gear design won’t offer too much for military or law enforcement personnel in the field. That’s not to say that it doesn’t make a great gun range pack due to its multiple attachment possibilities.

The fact that it’s also comfortable, spacious, and highly durable give it good value for the money. The compression strap helps reduce the sway, as well as the strain on the neck and shoulders when carrying a heavier load.
